About Us

Claremont Clinic is an NHS GP Surgery in North East London.

Claremont Clinic was opened in 1951 in a double fronted house on Claremont Road on the Woodgrange Estate – an estate of Victorian Villas. Its founder, Dr Hannah Hedwig Striesow was a pioneering GP and the first female police surgeon in the country. She retired at the age of 81 – at the time being the oldest clinician in practice in England and continued to work until the age of 90. Her obituary was published in The Guardian – click here to read it.

Claremont Clinic moved to its current location on the Romford Road in May 1998 and was officially opened by Stephen Timms, the local MP.

Since then the clinic has continued to grow and expand its services and the building was extensively refurbished in early 2024.

Claremont Clinic provides a range of care and medical services for our local community in the Woodgrange Estate area and wider Forest Gate.

We are part of the North Newham Primary Care Network – as part of the NHS North East London Integrated Care Board.

We are proud to be a teaching and training practice for the next generation of clinicians
